2013-05-19 · Rebuilding Jaska's rallycross BMW
At Easter 2012, Jaska bought a TouringCars-class BMW in Belgium. Straight from collecting it, he raced the British European Championship round, finishing ninth. Later came Höljes in Sweden, third, and Kouvola, sixth. Various problems cropped up during the season, so we decided on a complete rebuild for the coming summer.
The specs:
BMW 120i
year 2008
2.0-litre 16-valve engine, built by BMW Motorsport. Engine code P45, based on the 320si engine homologated for WTCC.
KMS engine management, being replaced by a MoTeC M4.
286 hp, 230 Nm
Drenth DG400 6-speed sequential
BMW Motorsport differential.
Brakes AP Racing
Moton three-way adjustable dampers, BMW Motorsport independent suspension.
AiM dash with data logging.
We'll make moulds for some of the composite parts and get more weight out of them.
Stripping it down.
The shell was poorly sealed and filled with mud and dust after every race.
Shell washed down.
The old fuel-filler flap area removed. Too many unnecessary layers of metal.
New lightened model.
All holes were taped to keep dirt and dust out.
Shell off for paint.
Four kilos of Sika sealant went into sealing the body seams. Some areas underneath also got stone-chip coating.

We've been waiting a long time for this weekend. The Fiesta is finally together, and we'll find out what it can do at Kouvola. This weekend is really practice, though. The main target is the World Championship event at Kouvola at the end of the month.
